The Earth spins at more than 1000 mph. If it were to suddenly stop, the effects would be disastrous. Everything that isn’t tied down would suddenly go flying eastward at more than 1000 miles per hour.
That includes the atmosphere, creating winds as strong as an atomic blast. The momentum would send giant tsunamis sweeping more than 17 miles inland in less than a minute.
